Scunthorpe-born Jarman was brought to Blundell Park by Alan Buckley just a month into the 2007-08 season in an effort to resolve Town's striking woes. He was snapped up by the Mariners after impressing during a trial with the club on the recommendation of assistant Stuart Watkiss. Jarman struggled to hit the net in his early games and was sent off on his full debut away at Rochdale.

He began his career at Barnsley, where he played in a successful youth side for the Yorkshire outfit and in 2006 spent time on loan at Bury, playing twice but failing to score. Jarman was then loaned to Conference North side Worksop Town, where he marked his debut with two goals: a stunning overhead kick followed by a 30-yard volley. Some debut.

Alan Buckley was impressed with Jarman's early form for Town, and rewarded him with a one-year contract. Although he was mostly limited to cameo roles from the bench, he was beginning to win the home fans over with a series of hard-working performances for the side.

Mike Newell replaced Buckley as manager in October 2008, and immediately began to use Jarman as a right winger. Jarman, buoyed by the run in the first team began to shine and scored the first goal in a 2-0 win at Bury which was the club's first league win of the campaign. He added further goals against Exeter, Wycombe, Port Vale and Bournemouth and signed a new two-year contract in the close season.
