Part of the Lennie Lawrence Bright Young Things influx during the summer of 2001, Simon came to the club after being released by Charlton Athletic.

Not given much of a chance in the team until Lawrence was given the boot, Simon was instantly thrown into the first team by Grovesie for the vital Chrimbo games, most notably against Portsmouth. Town won 3-1, Fordy scored and it was uphill there for the young lad as he held a squad place for the rest of the season.

Pacy, neat passing, an excellent reader of the game, sprightly jumps, controlled headers and a deceptive physique for a centre-back - this lad could go onto big things.
