Beer Town upon Trent

24 April 2014

In the Year of the Tinkerman, the Ever-Present is king. Your original/regular Diary is delighted but unsurprised to see the Mariners' excellent young goalkeeper James 'His Name Is Not Macca' McKeown voted player of the year by supporters. McKeown, who is not called Macca, has proved a more than able shot-stopper this term and probably saved Town more points than any other player has gained. But in a season notable above all else for an extraordinary degree of squad rotation, this accolade for McKeown, who is never properly nicknamed Macca, is not so much predictable as inevitable. Without taking anything away from the lad, his outfield counterparts have been chopped and changed so much that the goalkeeper is more than likely the only player in the squad who's had long enough in the team to justify anyone voting for him.

Tickets are available now for the home leg of Town's play-off semi-final against,  um, we don't know yet, on, er, ah, actually we can't tell you when it will be either. Despite the identity of Town's opponents and the scheduling of the fixture remaining unknown until after the regular season ends this Saturday, you can buy a ticket now!

This represents a tricky one for your original/regular Diary. Midweek I should be fine. Sack work off an hour early and that's plenty of commuting time. The Sunday? Not quite so simple. Jet-setting exile scum that I am, I'm in London on the Friday night and Bristol on the Saturday. So it's touch and go whether I could make it. Buy a ticket anyway? Possibly. Town letting me down after an extraordinary weekend of pop music and cinematic thrills in two of my favourite cities? Probably.
