Zak Mills buzzes up and down his touchline, defending conscientiously and attacking with wit and purpose In the second half he was the nearest we had to a threat.
For me, it showed where we came from. Today their decision making was at the level below and it needs to change.
We looked at the physical presence of Grimsby today, we looked at the weather, and whether Michael Rose could put it where we wanted with the wind being up, so we decided to play it short and it worked perfectly. It's the goal that's won us the game, in a game that I thought we deserved to win.
Individually, we started with 11 players who all look like they could be useful. Collectively, it just didn't work. There is very little pace in the side and the midfield lacks nous and cohesion. Its perhaps unfair to judge Jones and Dyson when they were starved of service, but I suspect the Morecambe defenders scarcely needed a shower afterwards.
Morecambe weren't nearly so well equipped to exploit our weaknesses as Crewe had been two weeks ago, but they were still comfortably good enough. The players knew their jobs and in Mullin they had a persistent pest. Morecambe look bound for mid-table.
In the first half, we sang "Don't you worry about a thing" like a funeral march. In the second half we had a sarcy "We only want one shot". Boos were saved for after the final whistle. The fans were an accurate barometer of the performance.
Darren Handley
Mr Handley arrived in Morecambe at noon and declared the pitch playable. But then, with no rain forecast until after 2, he decided to have another inspection at 1. There's a method in there somewhere. The main black mark against him is in fact for not calling the match off. In the second half, he let Gunning have a free kick when Mullin was threatening to beat him in a foot race. Then he let a Morecambe defender off the hook in the same way when Bolarinwa was getting ahead of him. 7.
A game over before it had begun.
