The Grimsby Reaper is back!
No, not Jim Bentley. His position at Morecambe is protected by local by-laws. Only when every last Eric-themed cafe, gift shop and pub in the town has closed down will the club contemplate bringing in a new manager.
On Sunday, Grimsby Town Women FC maintained their 100 per cent record with a 5-0 win at Peterborough United Ladies reserves. After the game, Tim Mosey tells us, the Posh reserves coach resigned. Tim points out that there may be stuff going on behind the scenes at Peterborough that we are not privy to, but he, we and you know better. The Grimsby Reaper has wielded its scythe and so laid its imprimatur on Dale Houlston's team.
We know that at least someone at Blundell Park reads the Fishy. We have the occasional midnight ramblings of our majority shareholder to prove it. But does anyone there read Cod Almighty? Until this week, Domestic Diary thought the answer was Certainly not. Now it is Perhaps, but very slowly.
This week, the club unveiled new ticketing options for fans who cannot commit to a season ticket. As well as options to buy tickets for 13 or six matches, there is a Mariners Exile Scheme: six matches, one free child ticket, a digital programme subscription and discounts on replica shirts and mascot packages. It bears a certain resemblance to a suggestion made in the diary of 4 January 2018.
Cod Almighty can't accept responsibility for the prices. I haven't done the sums but I'm told the tickets are more expensive than if you simply took advantage of early bird offers. A lot depends on you wanting the programme and a shirt, or having a child who wants to be a mascot, whether the Exile Scheme is actually a good deal or not. The Mariners Trust has also missed a significant trick in not getting membership included as part of the deal.
Let's be positive - and Cod Almighty is always positive - and say that these are details which can be honed in future. If it is evidence that people at the club are listening - not to us but to all fans - it is welcome.
