Doctor Who and the ownership of Grimsby Town

16 December 2019

Trentside Diary writes: We’ve been asking for improvement and we’ve got it. On Saturday we played better and had some chances.

Don’t get too over excited though. It could be a while before we’re challenging for the second division, as previously promised by the board. I’m not knocking Anthony Limbrick, or how hard it must be for a team that have been struggling for form, but it’s painfully slow. In fact, it's too slow. We all desperately need a goal or two and even better three points to lift us.

Not that one win would disperse the gloom that is ever-present at our club, hanging over all that is left of the dry bones of our 2016 hope. A quick skim down the results this season and you have to go back to mid-October since we last scored a league goal, September since we had a win. What a win that was, 3-1 away at Exeter. Then we hoped this was going to be our season.

Turning to more seasonal thoughts, I haven’t done my Christmas shopping yet. Rather than waste money on something you’ll never use or need, what would you like? Remember, we’re still in times of austerity so don’t get too carried away.

My list to Father Christmas isn't long. Yes, I'd like a certain football club, but I know that's not realistic. Instead I'm asking for some rare honesty from the club, and more directly from John Fenty. No more of the "Poor me. I don't like it anymore and I'll sell it if a buyer with lined-up ducks comes along" bollocks that has been going on for best part of a decade.

We know nothing will change for the better while he is rolling the dice. The fear is that after a brief flirtation with a ladder we're back on that slippery snake. If you still believe that Fenty has the best interests of the club at heart and his ownership hasn't just been a massage to his and his fellow directors’ egos, you need look no further than the comments of Mike Parker back in 2011 when it was clear that the board had no intention of letting anyone else in on their little gang.

So please just answer, "How much? How much will it take for you and your cronies to go?" and then those with a genuine interest have to something to work with. As a prospect, we have an awful reputation and the longer this limbo goes on, the worse it will get. Like the Vashta Nerada I fear the gloom of Fenty will be sucking the life out of the club for centuries to come.

UTM. Fenty Out!
