When will there be news?

18 November 2020

Several media outlets are reporting that from Friday (as, of course, there is a fixture on Friday nights these days) up to five substitutes will be allowed in a match. Basque Diary finds this a tad disappointing but squad rotation has just risen to a new level.

No matches for two weeks has given us time to take stock of the season so far. Let's face it, it's not been great but is it really that time of the year when people start using the "s" word already? We Mariners no doubt have a fetish for it this century, but surely this year is basically a free hit? We're probably not going to go down, we're probably not going to go up and we should probably be happy to just be at the party given the current global situation and what our chairman says about our finances.

In the absence of club football @onthisdayGTFC continues to entertain us with videos from the Town's past. I really enjoy watching them. They bring a smile to my face in an uninspiring year. Sadly, there seems to be a dearth of footage from approximately the end of Buckley II to Slade I. This is of particular to me as it was the era when I went from being a supporter to a regular attendee as I went through secondary school. It was also, in parts, a great time to be a Grimsby fan. If you are hoarding some of clips from that era do get in touch, we'd like to be entertained.

Alternatively, @crap90sfootball is always good for a titter. While five subs does give me a bit of the "game's gone" jitters, football in the 1990s seems to have been of a generally poorer standard at lower echelons of the game.

It's already Wednesday and we have an actual game at the weekend. Roll on Saturday.
