The creative juices have frozen, I'm afraid

8 December 2022

Glass Half Full, on our current form? Hmmm. Glass Half Frozen more like. Brrrr!

Saturday's opponents Tranmere Rovers may sit three points above us in the league table, but they've played a game more, and like us, have failed to win in their last five League games. A statistic which places both sides alongside Gillingham at the foot of the form table. A Gillingham-supporting friend reminds me, the Gills have managed only six goals in twenty league games. (Harry Clifton alone has five in 23 for us.) Of course, we managed five in an hour against third-flight leaders Plymouth in the FA Cup. See, things do not look as bad when these comparisons are made. Of course, we aren't playing the Gills, but Tranmere also recently lost to AFC Wimbledon.

After 19 league matches, our Mariners total 20 league goals and 19 conceded. No wonder we are mid-table. Obvious conclusion: score more goals, concede fewer. Five in an hour for the home side would be nice on Saturday. An early Christmas present, given that we don't actually play at home again until 29 December.

What else is occurring? Ex-Town youngster Joe Starbuck has been loaned from Sheffield United to Boston, presumably for some game time. Current Town youngster Aaron Braithwaite won the Man of the Match award for Whitby Town on Tuesday as they drew with Hyde United; his first start of his loan spell. And we await injury-news regarding our quartet of injured full backs; if none can return on Saturday, the Khouri-Maher combination will have to fill in again.
