Diary
Your day-by-day glance at the going ons at and around Town.
Tuesday 30 July
After a five hour meeting the board release an undisclosed amount for manager Paul Groves to bolster the club's playing staff.
Friday 26 July
Town lose out 2-1 to Hull City at Boothferry Park. Still, got to give the Tigers one bright spot a season, eh? Lee Sharpe plays no part in the game.
The official site carries an open letter of resignation from Alex King. King held a non-executive position on the board. Interesting to note he remarks the new stadium is a pipedream.
In other news, Lee Sharpe (calm down, ladies) is training with the club.
Wednesday 24 July
The Mariners will play Chesterfield in the first round of the Worthington Cup. The match will be played at Blundell Park on Tuesday 10 September.
Tuesday 23 July
The away game at Bradford has been brought forward to Friday 23 July.
Monday 22 July
Town complete a hat-trick of Scandinavian tour defeats as they go 3-1 down at Frem A/S. For the record Terry Cooke scores for Town.
The G(E)T reports that Danny Coyne's move to Cardiff will be back on when the players return to the country. Can someone explain how moving to Cardiff will give his international career a boost?
Bradley Allen's on trial at Oxford. Cue Inspector Morse jokes. Allen continues to offer the rhetoric that Town "haven't offered me anything at all at Grimsby. Nothing whatsoever."
Saturday 20 July
The gaffer gives some of the young 'uns a run out as Town lose out 2-1 against Herfolge. Rowan follows up to score off Thompson's saved penalty.
Friday 19 July
There's a cracking rumour that Marlon Broomes may be on his way back to Town. No, really.
Thursday 18 July
Town's pre-season tour gets off to a disappointing start, losing 4-0 against Copenhagen. Still – they're in the Intertoto Cup and we're not.
Tuesday 16 July
The squad numbers for the coming season are announced. Pixies fans will be happy to hear Pouton is still wearing the 7 shirt.
Danny Coyne travels to Cardiff but a deal isn't agreed on.
Another non-surprise as cash-strapped NTL ask football league clubs to forego an overdue payment of £85,000 and accept an 80% share of future internet profits as opposed to the current deal of 50%.
Bradley Allen is on his way to Brighton for a trial.
Simon Ford is back training at Blundell Park after Wolves decide not to take him on their tour of Sweden.
Lee Hodges joins Rochdale. Hey – if he was that good don't you think he'd sign for someone better?
Monday 15 July
Scaremongering in the G(E)T with news that Danny Coyne could be going to Cardiff "for FREE". Yes, so shocking they used capitalisation. Comedy contrast in the size of the quotes from Mr Motormouth Lawrence and Paul Groves – Lennie dishing out about eight times more than Sir Paul's one line.
The club take Tresor Luntala on trial from Birmingham. Some people at my mate Pete's workplace reckon he's alright.
Saturday 13 July
The Mariners' first pre-season game is a 4-0 win against Brigg Town. Groves fields his first team (ie- all 11 of the fit senior players he's got available) for the first 60 minutes and starts adding youngsters to the pot thereafter. Jevons has a deflected shot go in, Gallimore slaps a free-kick home, with Rowan and Carchedi wrapping things up late on. Cod Almighty asks you to keep an eye on David Soames – the boy looks a bit special.
Chairman Peter Furneaux says he will not resign. And quite right too.
Thursday 11 July
Shock horror! The board place Danny Coyne and Phil Jevons on the transfer list. Hooray! It's back to the good old days when we had to sell a player every summer to survive.
Wednesday 10 July
Lee Hodges leaves Town.
Tuesday 9 July
Ex-Scunthorpe midfielder Lee Hodges joins Town on trial. It's taken about six months of rumours but it's finally happened.
Newcastle's David Cohan signs up for a trial as well.
Town's home game against Derby is to feature live on Sky. Shame it kicks off at 5.45 on the Saturday ruining the evening for everyone who has to travel a sizeable distance to get to it...
Monday 8 July
Nippy ex-tennis player Michael Boulding joins Aston Villa on a free. And there was press saying Graham Taylor was going to sign Danish winger Dennis Rommendahl.
Friday 5 July
Danny Butterfield signs a four year deal at Crystal Palace. In the G(E)T Danny enthuses "they've got a great manager in Trevor Francis." Whatever you say, Danny.
Stop that weeping though for no sooner had one left, then another came through the door with Terry Cooke being saved from further trips to the Job Centre. Hoorah!
The Football League signs a £95million deal with Sky. Spread over four years, our rough maths works out that Town will get about £725,000 a season. They'll be a few upset chairmen out there tonight (not looking at anyone in particular, Mr S Jordan).
Thursday 4 July
Groves and Rodger do sign. Expect lots of fun and games over the next few days.
Wednesday 3 July
A bit late in the day this but the official site states that Groves and Rodger will sign new contracts at a press conference tomorrow morning. If they'd stretched it out a bit more it could have coincided with the launch of Mariners World.
Tuesday 2 July
Contract talks between Groves and the board continue...
