Postbag: Struggling for titles since 1908

20 May 2005

Hello, and welcome to your almost weekly postbag. I'm glad to see that the letters are still rolling in despite the lack of GTFC news. Although, sadly, there's not been many letters from nutters from other clubs lately. How I yearn for the days of such classics as 'U STINK OV FISH'. Bless 'em.

Anyway, send your letters and/or misguided abuse to postbag@codalmighty.com and you too can have your words on a web page. Magic.

He used to buy me roses
Hull have got some front, refusing to play Town in a friendly because they wouldn't get paid. It's not that long since Town offered them the use of BP when that John Lloyd locked them out of Boothferry Park. How quickly the nouveau-riche forget.

I wish he would again
Can I ask the business desk a question? I have just seen a news report of Manchester United fans holding bannners stating the 'club is not for sale'. Ahem… doesn't PLC status mean that the club, in actual fact, is for sale and has now been sold?

Can the business desk also advise me on the best kind of mortgage to take out for £80,000 over 20 years. Thanks.

Business desk? Mortgages? Does not compute. In answer to your first question though: Yes, Manchester United fans are all stupid bastards. [Letters Ed]

But that was on the outside
With regards to Dave the Engineer's recent missive about beers from Yorkshire, without wanting to refer to any brews that are too obscure, Tim Taylor's and Black Sheep are both products of Yorkshire and both are supremely fine pints. The Acorn brewery from Barnsley does a lovely sup as well.

Why do I get the feeling the postbage is going to be full of this kind of thing throughout the summer months? I suppose it's more fun than being threatened with the return of Menno Willems.

And things were different then
I must have fallen asleep. When did Robbie Blake play for Grimsby Town?

On the inside the sun still shines
That Andy Holt statto-fella - he's a sad old case, isn't he?

He doesn't get out much, bless him. It might have something to do with the cage we keep him in though. [Letters Ed]

And the rain falls down
Hi there Cod Almighty hope everything is OK, sorry to e-mail it to both the diary and postbag but I can imagine how lazy you are and wanted to make sure you got this message.

Basically, I would just like to request that you give THE BLACK ZIDANE APPRECIATION SOCIETY a mention on your website because now we at TBZAS have our very own website. We have incorporated a couple of links to your site (hope you don't mind, if you do we'll remove them) and it'd be appreciated if you would do the same on yours.

We'd love a mention in the diary too. Thanks in anticipation of your support.

Us? Lazy? Well I would like to… oh I can't be bothered. The link has been added. [Letters Ed]

starLetter of the Week
But the sun and rain are prisoners too
While the club's official site is taking a break from auctioning off last season's leftovers by telling us how much season tickets have gone up by, what about those fans who can't justify such an expenditure and "pay as they go"? Come to think of it what about the usual season ticket perks - the "early bird" discounts, the free child seat in the Main Stand? No mention. Typical Town press - half thought through with the emphasis concentrating on their justification.

When morning comes around
How the bloody hell do you make iced tea?

It's certainly a question that needs answering, that's for sure. If anybody knows how to make it, please let us know at the usual address. [Letters Ed]
