Reasons to be Grimsby (and Cleethorpes) proud

8 December 2008

Give the postman a rest, drop us an email instead. Making it through the pre-Xmas rush are...

Famous Grimsy peeps
How about Tim "Nibbs" Carter (Cleethorpes), bass player for heavy metal band Saxon since 1988? OK, they're not massive in the UK, but they still release records and play all over the world where Metal is still appreciated. They were also allegedly the inspiration for Spinal Tap.

Places where metal is appreciated? Doesn't that mean Scunthorpe? Surely not.

More news that didn't happen
Fowler to Blundell Park, seems very unlikely. Maybe he is just interested in extending his property empire and has realised in the current economic climate he could buy most of the town with his millions.

Could he raise a stadium while he's about it?

New stadium 2012
As David Ross is involved in the Olympics, and might be, as is rumoured, about to have something to do with GTFC, could it be in fact that we have found our new statium solution in relocating the entire population of Grimsby to the vicinity of the Olympic Stadium – the soon to be renamed London FishBoyz Grimsby Dock Area of London? Isle of Cods, perhaps?

A team without a stadium for a stadium without a team.

Chapman's Pond
Great to see the pictures of Chapman's Pond. I was born on the front room carpet of 40 Bennett Road which is actually adjacent to the pond. In the winter the wind came from Russia acrosss the pond and hit our house first. God, it was cold.

As a teenager I spent many hours fishing in Chapman's Pond. You do know that there is a pike in there as big as a Ford Anglia, don't you?

I now live in Peterborough, but still follow the Town.

The first game I ever saw (went in at half-time when they opened the gates) was against Port Vale about 40 years ago. We were bottom of the fourth division!

Oddly enough the last game I saw was against Port Vale... we've come a long way in 40 years.

That's all for now. Tune in in two weeks to see if we run a Christmas special.
