The new Vera Lynn
Interesting to read – well, it was on a depressingly slushy day having a lunchtime scone at the local garden centre in tropical Carlisle – that Ashley, I say Ashley, is listed as equal 16th in the players' earning list as related by the wholly trustworthy Guardian.
Whilst not all that rivetting in itself, he is listed as Ashley, I say Ashley, and Cheryl Cole unlike any of the deserving miracles of our sporting age, headed of course by old bulging boxers himself on about £200 trillion. This raises the question, at least in my idle mind, about how she came to be there unlike any of the other appendices. Does she accompany him on to the pitch to ensure no untoward shagging with a minimally attractive spectator or does she qualify as his spiritual amanuensis now that she is the new Vera Lynn lest he wishes to remonstrate with the officials in defiance of the Respect agenda?
Other possibilities may arise in the course of this dull afternoon but I thought I needed to share the more obvious ones with anyone else at a momentary loose end. Isn't this sort of mindless blather what 'blogs' are supposed to be about?

Just one among so many
In praise of Danny Baker
Hi,
Anybody listen to the brilliant Danny Baker's 606 on the 13th Jan? One of the subjects was hearing the wrong result/score for a football match.
A Bolton fan rang in and remembered the '90-91 season, Town were playing Stoke away and Bolton were away to somebody else, last but one game of the season. Both teams were aiming for second position in the third division, Bolton needed Town to lose to have change of automatic promotion. Apparently at the Bolton game the score went round the ground that Town had lost 2-0 with Tony Ellis the scorer. Obviously this was before mobile phones etc and the Bolton fans celebrated wildly. Of course Town managed a 0-0 draw despite Stoke fans' pitch invasion! It wasn't till after the match that this Bolton fan and others on the train home realised that Town had drawn and their celebrations were cut short.
Second place wasn't settled till the week after when we beat Exeter 2-1 at home with John Cockerill the hero.
Another memory from this season was some that some Town fans went to Millmoor, as Town were away in London, to see Rotherham beat Bolton 3-2 after being 2-0 down! Oh and Shaun Cunnington being brought down by a Bolton defender when through on goal in the 0-0 home game and the ref playing on, it was a penalty to this day!
Great show 606 but only on a Tuesday when Danny B does it.
