Up the Mariners: information please
Dear Sirs,
I have in my possession a copy of a 45rpm record titled "Up the Mariners" written by Charles Gibbs, arrangement T. Hopkin, performed by Bill Raymond's Show Group, record produced by Grimsby Town FC Ltd on the DUOLUX label Grimsby. Please can you tell me any more about it as Charles Gibbs was my Grandfather.

Sacking window
I think the Leagues should have a Sacking Window (similar to transfer window, but... sacking).
In that one month period, clubs can contact other clubs and swop managers etc. That way they can perhaps save pay offs, termination fees , buy offs or whatever else you call it, and Managers have a job to go to. Less unemployment!!!!
Managers then can wear coats saying "Manager" and not FS, TA PI, JR, so they can be re-used. More money can be utilised in paying fat wages to players.
Look at all the "air time saved in phoning ex, has-been, managers and footballers (the ones who played/managed at the said team team 10 years ago), that can be spent on moaning about the economy/weather etc.
Everyone's a winner I suppose... but boring. Hmmmm, maybe not then.

Harmony
Does Jan Przeniczny hold the record for the Town fan with the highest ratio of consonants to vowels in his surname? In the interests of European harmony I am prepared to trade some of the letters from my twin daughters' names. Thanks to their Finnish mother they have more vowels than is strictly necessary.
By the way, Jan's not the first person to make the link between beef and British belligerence.

More near death experiences at Stoke
Regarding Mr Alan Richardson's memories of Stoke in 91; I was there with my brother and Dad. It was early May and boy I've never been so unnerved at a football match in this country.
I was 18 and we all went to a nearby pub for a pint and a game of pool. I remember putting It's My Life by Talk Talk on the Juke Box which was a big hit around that time. Everything was going well – I think I even beat my Dad at pool! Town were going for another promotion and there was a lot of optimism.
I remember the Victoria Ground being pretty big and Town had quite a good following. There were plenty of Stoke fans too and there must have been more than 10,000 in the crowd. I've still got the Matchday programme and we had the one and only Garry Birtles at right back. He must have been about 36 but he was absolute class. His control on the ball and passing were quality. He frustrated the life out of players like Wayne Biggins.
I remember the game was heading towards 0-0 and seeing the home crowd creeping towards the hoardings behind their goal. Then all of a sudden the Stoke fans they were on the pitch and hundreds of them came tearing towards us. They managed to get to our end and some were even climbing the barriers trying to get it. Then I remember the riot police storming out of one corner and forming a line across the pitch. I'm sure there were horses too though not sure they would be good for the pitch! It was pretty scary and the Stokies weren't far off getting into the away end before they were beaten back by the police. I remember one lad grabbing the corner flag and waving it around like a trophy.
Boy, that was scary.
The game eventually restarted and we deservedly got a point in a pretty mundane 0-0 draw.
I remember being nervous on the way out and being manhandled by a copper who did not care where I was going or whether I was a Stoke or Grimsby fan. He just shouted at me to walk the other direction to my Dad and brother which was annoying. I was relieved just to get back to the car and get home safely to cheer another memorable Town promotion.

Anyone have any pictures of Johnny Griffiths
I was given your name from a guy called Steve who knew my
dad. My dad was the bass guitarist for the Mariners in the 60's with Mick Ronson. My dad's name was Johnny Griffiths. Now i have lots of memories of my dad, but this [band] was a time well before I was born so it's not what I know, and now unfortunatly my dad has passed away. I have only got one photo of dad and the band which seems to be the only
photo anybody can get. Now steve told me you're the man to ask!!!!! And I'm hoping this is true. I'm so hoping for some great pics of when my dad and the lads had the good times and I have heard so many stories from the
good old days!!! if not, then no worries.
