But amid a morass of mediocrity, Justin Whittle always stood out: as the player who gave 120,000 per cent while all around him shrugged and failed – and as the avenging hero who in 2005 won the gratitude of an entire nation (except possibly Newcastle) by dishing back to crybaby Shearer an almighty smack in the chops that had the pompous Toon legend-turned-useless TV pundit dripping blood all over the Blundell Park turf.
The summer of 2008 marks the end of the Whittle era at Blundell Park – but Cod Almighty's superb new T-shirt immortalises the famous moment of Sgt Whittle 'doing' Shearer in front of the Sky cameras and getting away without even a yellow card. With added military stripes sleeve print!
