"A little voice inside my head said don't look back - you can never look back"
Was Don Henley right? When Bryan Huxford died there was a general smatter of polite applause, a nod to a past servant of the club. But your Guest Diarist, in all conscience, struggled to join in. Bryan was what you might call an operator. Sharp elbowed with an eye to the main chance. A respectful distance has passed since his funeral so this morning fails to find me following Don's advice. My biggest irk, which was definitely to the detriment of our beloved club, was the nasty way he forced Colin Graves off the board. Graves missed two board meetings owing to business commitments and Huxford used this device to remove him as a board member. Graves, a very successful businessman, moved into cricket, and Town's chance to use his expertise was lost. Huxford wheeled and dealed and got us nowhere.
A year or so after Huxford left the club Cod Almighty received a very unexpected email from a venture capitalist. This gentleman wrote in to inquire whether we were able to provide comments about Huxford as he was involved in a project to start an East Anglian airline or summat. He was concerned about character. I took it on myself to reply choosing my words more carefully than normal but remembering that honesty was the best policy. I dunno what transpired but the airline never took off.
But you don't want any more of this! You want many more videos of players sweating in pre-season. You want annnouncements, and you want them yesterday! Apparently. When our Chairman, a man of few words so listen to them carefully, said put a ring round 30th June in your diary you were supposed to do just that. Contracts end on a date, offers are on the table to that date, and decisions do not have to be made until then. Ranting on social media is not a good look. Patience is a virtue. Blah, blah blah. I'l get me coat.
New signing Walker has got a little moustache. This is very important because it makes him look even more like Private Walker off Dad's Army. He has been a good player, and has a good heart. Whether he can get us black market Apple watches, well we will have to wait and see. See yer.
