Obscure Legends volume II

21 April 2022

Mr Target Demographic Diary writes: Hello all! I hope you all slept as well as me on a bed of six points over Easter! Not only do I sleep better at night but with Town being firmly inside the play-offs I'm also happier overall during the day.

Contributing to this could be the lovely praise I received from people on my GTFC writing debut. Last week I contributed to the series of "Legends" that has been featuring in the programme this season. I chose Liam Hearn to write about. I'm sure if you read my piece you’ll understand I chose him not for being a legend of Grimsby Town but the impact and influence he had on me growing up.

What made the day sweeter was the occasion and the result. If Quigley hadn't been subbed and Stockport weren't down to 10 men the programme would be far less valuable to me. I rate Quigley more than Tshimanga and any second- or third-flight club should take a risk on him because he was one of the best strikers I've seen at Blundell Park for a while. Aside from the great Liam Hearn obviously.

This year's national league play-off final will be at the London Stadium rather than Wembley, for the second year running. This does genuinely annoy me as, from what I've heard, the atmosphere is nothing compared to Wembley due to the space from the stands to the pitch. This, alongside the play-off final being slapped into the middle of my A-level examinations, makes me almost not want to go. Get to the play-off final first Town then I'm sure I'll be convinced to come out in full support.
