4 January 2013

Mardy Diary writes: I did worry that we might be a bit light of striking options at the weekend, what with the departure of Michael Rankine and the ongoing Hannah hoo-ha. But Richard Brodie is certainly a decent capture for this level: yer run-of-the-mill, non-League brute with the ability to score a good amount of goals. More a replacement for Rankine than Hannah presumably, with no news yet on what's going on with that particularly deal.

Sorry, Anthony who? Shush.

Lots of fans seem to dislike Brodie, including fans of clubs he's played for. I remember seeing him play against us, but not being particularly bothered about him. If I remember rightly we tended to keep him fairly quiet. Some fans have described him as a nasty bugger - but I've not seen any explanation as to why that is. I recall he was a bit cynical, but that pretty much applies to anyone who has recently played for Crawley and Fleetwood. That was/is their style.

Whatever, I like my centre-forward battering rams with a penchant for elbows and goals: a good, old Livvo-style forward. He certainly seems an upgrade on Rankine, but I think it will still be important to sign Hannah or a player similar to fill in the gap until Hearn is up and running (which may take as long as March).

The Hannah deal - which seems to have stalled over wages - is annoying me more at the moment. It seemed to me that we just needed Bradford to agree a fee and then we were all set, but it seems that isn't the case now. Bradford have suddenly decided to tout around to the likes of Luton to see if they can get a few more quid, and there are rumours that club and player can't agree on a fee.

Now, I'm not sure why the latter wasn't already tied up - although I expect it probably was nothing other than the paperwork until Hannah's weasly agent got involved. I've no problem with players getting the best deal for themselves, but this whoring about that agents do in the middle of negotiations pisses me off. We have matches to play and we can't be fart-arsing around while some agent with an overinflated sense of worth plays some silly dick-waving game.

Can't we tax these fuckers off the planet? There's a deficit to pay-off and a small group of fuckers with money to burn and time to waste. Put a fucking levy on the bastards (with reductions for concluding deals quickly) and we'll see how that changes the game.

Grrrrrr.

Anyway, there may be more signings before this weekend's game with Hereford, but in the meantime have a look at our match preview to get the lowdown on the opposition. Have a good weekend.
