4 February 2006

A pretty much deserved 1-0 win at Notts County reverses Town's recent faltering form and strengthen's the side's grip on the automatic promotion places on a day when two rivals suffer surprise defeats. And all this with a bizarrely patched-up side featuring Tom Newey playing at centre-half. The winning goal is scored by some bloke doing a good impression of Michael Reddy, who was sold to Luton for £325,000 earlier this week, running on to a lofted ball and slotting home with five minutes of the first half remaining. The top three all now stand on 54 points, with another big win for Carlisle pushing their goal difference above that of Wycombe, who lose 2-0 at Wrexham; Town remain third, a point clear of Northampton, while Leyton Orient slip to fifth with a defeat at Torquay. Isn't it exciting?
