Season ticket sales were reported a few weeks back to be on course for 2,000 this summer. That hasn't happened, but the 1,800 figure that the club is now boasting isn't half bad. As the NSNOS itself points out, we should take into account the fact that "the country is in a 'double dip' recession" thanks to the economic illiteracy of John Fenty (Jumping Frog)'s fellow Tory, Mr Gideon Osborne. Well done everyone!

It seems to your original/regular Diary that there are other factors we ought to consider too. There's the triple relegation achieved during Fenty's spell at the helm. There's the fact at any given time only 4.18 per cent of Grimbarians actually know what division their local football team is even playing in. And there's the fact that the club employs people to write marketing communications which include phrases like "the total is heading for an 1800 grand total". Not just illiterate but innumerate. Even Osborne is trumped.

In other news today, Shorty and Shouty are looking for ways to quietly abandon their tried-and-failed 4-3-3 obsession while saving face. Tell you what, chaps - if you don't use it any more, we won't mention it any more. Deal?

"Aren't people missing the point about the club statement missing the point on the non-banning of an admitted abuser?" is the snappy opening of an email to the Diary from ace CA match reporter Mr Tony Butcher. "The club claimed that unattributed media had incorrectly asserted that they were not asking the courts to ban the abuser. The media reports (ie Grimsby Telegraph) specifically didn't say that: it quoted the club's own statements about zero tolerance and 'in addition to any action taken by the police, perpetrators will be banned from our ground for life'. The storm was caused by the club not following its own statements and policies; some may even say it was a promise. Just like the Shouty shouting incident agin Darlington, obfuscation rules."

Tony is right, of course. And that's not even the half of it. Since I joined these men, I've seen shit that'll turn you white. More on that story later.
