Diary - Thursday 26 December 2002
26 December 2002
The Mariners chalk up a superb away win at Pride Park, despite fielding a line-up which had the Diary scratching its head and muttering "oh no, this looks a bit experimental, i don't like this..." at about quarter to three this afternoon. Unable to make the match, the Diary had to make do with Ceefax and the BBC website text commentary, but is very pleased to be proved wrong. Town had turned up with a team containing Ward, Soames, Parker, and Bolder, and more familiar faces, but not necessarily in the usual places. By 3.05pm, the scouts at Derby were flicking through their brand new "Rough Guide On How To Beat Grimsby", and in good old Boxing Day tradition started asking Auntie Barbara if she still had the receipt.
The BBC website text reveals that Oster's second was a shot from 35 yards. The diary can't wait to see that. Ooh, and congrats to David Soames for first senior goal.
Unfortunately, joy is tempered by the news that Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton both won. Stoke lost though (hooray!)... but they were beaten by Bradford (booo!). Still, we made up ground on Portsmouth - they only drew. We all hope that Norwich, turned over by Brighton today, will continue with their festive generosity on Saturday. Well, they haven't won away in five matches, anyway, you know. He said, tempting fate.
