23 November 2002

Town lose at Crystal Palace, as per every season; but today's 2-0 scoreline demonstrates a vast improvement on the 5-0 thumping meted out to Lennie the Loser Lawrence's rather less well managed team last year. Palace take the lead from a spawny deflection and Town make a good fist of fighting back, producing some decent saves from Alex 'ow, that hurt!' Kolinko. Ultimately it isn't Town's day, but at least Danny Butterfield doesn't make the scoresheet. David Soames is this week's young debutant, getting off the bench for 10 minutes at the ball; while John McDermott, as expected, makes it an incredible 600 appearances in the black and white. The Diary takes its electronic hat off to you, Macca.

Results elsewhere keep Town in 21st place, with Steve Scabba doing the Mariners an unintentional favour by opening the scoring in Sheffield United's 5-0 win over Bradford, who are rapidly becoming sucked into the swirling relegation vortex thing. Down in the Conference, meanwhile, our old friend Daryl 'Bungle' Clare bags a hat-trick as Chester jump on the 5-0 bandwagon at Margate's expense.
