Diary - Tuesday 24 December 2002

24 December 2002

Nice to see that Darren Mansaram can shrug off the tiresome and moronic anti-Yorkie chants often heard at Blundell Park. In a Grimsby (nee Evening) Telegraph interview, he says of the victory over Sheff Weds: "It was special to beat them because I'm from Doncaster. Our fans were calling the Yorkshire lot - but I'm one of them!". Nice try, Darren, in trying to get this point across - just a shame none of the perpetrators can actually read.

The Mariners squad are heading for Ibiza in summer 2003. They'll be bob-bob-bobbing along to play a round, round robin tournament against S D Portmany and FC Santa Eulalia. The Diary finds the latter name highly amusing for reasons unknown. It must be the Christmas spirit. Anyway, the Spanish shenanigans are pencilled in for 5th to 12th July, and it sounds like great fun - the swimming pools, the bars, the nightlife, the drinking, the dancing... oh yeah, and the training and the footballing too.

Back to the here and now though: Town are playing at Derby on Boxing Day. Ceefax informs us that Derby thug Danny Higginbotham is doubtful, having suffered an ankle injury of some description. The diary reckons he's just scared of Doctor Livingstein's monster, arisen from the dead and intent on mortal revenge. Elsewhere, we are told that Groves is going to swap the team around a lot for the Pride Park fixture, in an effort to not to exhaust certain players over this busy period. Your guess as to the line-up, reader, is as good as ours.
Lest we forget him... 'Quick' Mick Boulding was hoping to be available for this match, but his return was put on hold as the flu brought him to his knees, this following hot on the heels of his ankle problem. Barring any other leg-related setbacks, we might see him turn out for the Norwich fixture on the 28th.

Finally, everyone at Cod Almighty would like to wish everyone reading this a very happy Christmas. :)
