Diary - Saturday 7 December 2002
7 December 2002
Town lose 3-1 away at Walsall after briefly looking a half-decent bet to take all three points. A Steve Livingstone equaliser makes it 1-1 at the break after a poor first half, and the Mariners restart with a flourish; but a disorganised back four proves their undoing after the decisive introduction of Walsall substitutes Zigor Aranalde and Gareth Ainsworth in the 57th minute. The Saddlers' third is lashed in by ex-Town fan Darren Wrack. Pah. Miraculously, the super black and whites remain fourth from bottom despite this third consecutive defeat. I suppose it's still all a massive improvement on losing 4-0 at the Bescot a year ago under Lennie the loser Lawrence. Contrary to speculation in yesterday's Diary, Darren Mansaram travels with the squad but remains injured and sits up in the stand with seemingly discarded winger Terry Cooke, who very daintily eats a chicken balti pie using a chip fork.
