John McDermott has added the inaugural BBC Radio Humberside Sporting Achievement Award to his creaking trophy shelf. The Town captain - who was honoured last season for becoming the club's record appearance maker and again this for playing his 600th game in black and white - won the Beeb gong at a canter, well ahead of some Hully rugby types in the voting. Mariners boss Paul Groves, meanwhile, has taken third place in Humberside's Manager of the Year award.

Groves is stepping up his efforts to bring Michael Boulding back to Blundell Park, insists today's Grimsby Telegraph. The paper hints that Boulding is keen on a return to the scene of his goalscoring glories last season, but those pesky other clubs are thought to be in the chase for the Aston Villa forward's signature. If the lad has any sense, though, he'll remember how much he improved under our Paul's management and head straight for the M180.
