Chris Thompson has been made available for loan. Released by Liverpool despite loads and loads of goals for their reserves, the Scouse forward joined the Mariners as part of the big intake of youthful talent in the 2001 close season - of which the great success story is Simon Ford - and made a handful of first-team appearances in the middle of last season without troubling the scorers. Thompson has recently returned to fitness following a long-term injury and the Mariners are looking for a lower-division club to have a lend and sharpen him up. Scunny would probably do.

Heavy rain around Cleethorpes means another frustrating postponement for Paul Wilkinson's reserve side, as today's home game with Mansfield has been called off following a 10am pitch inspection. The local weather is expected to be drier by Friday, though, so the weekend's first-team meeting with Preston at Blundell Park is not currently in jeopardy.
