19 February 2007

Hi there. Stand-In Diary with a late call up to today's duties.

Let's spoil the ending from Saturday's match at Mansfield (in case you haven't heard) by revealing that Danny North, having replaced the tiring Martin Paterson two minutes earlier, rifled home an 83rd-minute winner as Town came from behind for a second successive game to earn three league points, and move a mighty SEVEN points away from the Dreaded Relegation Places. Paul Bolland equalised ("delighted to get on the scoresheet... On another day I might have had two or three but I'm definitely happy with one") Michael Boulding's hardly celebrated opener to provide parity at the half-time break, before a second half that was "ace" according to Tony Butcher and "there for the taking" according to David Burns. The Grimmo Telegraph reminds us all what a remarkable turnaround this has been for the team recently: "It's hard to believe this is the same squad of players that couldn't buy a goal three weeks ago. Now they look capable of scoring with each foray forward."

Lord Buck felt this was the best performance out of Town's three consecutive wins, enthusing that Town were "particularly good", "dominated the game from the kick-off", and "the midfield three were fantastic in the second half; we were getting shots in, creating chances, our football was good", a view echoed by our peerless match reporter. His Lordship saved his final praise for the multitudinous Town fans taking advantage of free coach travel to Mansfield: "Walking off at the end there I happened to turn round and have a look back and it reminded me a little bit of that night when we beat Burnley and we were going to Wembley for the first time. It looked a little bit like that with so many people at an away game." The all-round back-slapping came full circle with a fan complementing Chairman John, the team and his fellow supporters for their efforts. High five!

Next up are Wrexham tomorrow night, who sneaked above Boston into 22nd place with a goalless draw against Chester yesterday. After offering attendance-swelling promotions for the past two games, Town officials are running another promotion, this time to coincide with half term. Running under the Americanised moniker 'Vise Versa', the promotion doesn't involve adults swapping bodies with any paying kid, Fred Savage fans. The gist is more that an adult can get in for free with any kid paying the £7 entrance fee. The club advises you to book tickets in advance "to avoid the usual congestion at the ticket office". Ahem. The number's 01472 605050, by the way.

From youth attending Blundell Park, to those who might not be attending any more. The club felt compelled to TXT over the weekend about Town yoofster Josh Burge, who has been on trial at Aston Villa for three of the past four weeks. Yoof club supremo Neil Woods is pleased with the lad's progress, who is not the only Town yoofer being watched by top-flight clubs. "We will have to wait and see what the outcome of his trial is," ends Woods, maybe not realising what an ominous impression of Kafka he does.

And, finally, what's that "pass and move... or else" on the OS's new masthead all about? Ta-ta.
