Diary - Wednesday 29 August 2007

29 August 2007

Your Guest Diarist has stepped in to this particular Wednesday breech as Mr Diary has stepped out on a secret mission today. And there is news for you, gentle reader. Well, rumours of news anyway.

The Telegraph reckons that Lord Buckley travelled to watch a game last night. After "making several enquiries". No, we don't know which games and neither can we begin to guess at the questions AB posed. Nor to whom. 'That elusive front man' has a certain ring to it and, in lieu of anything else, Buckley has decided to give a run out to podgy young Nathan Jarman who failed to impress so comprehensively in the summer when he last played a trial game for Town.

The Telegraph reports that Jarman has been training with Town lately so it will add a frisson of interest to the reserves match at home to Hartlepool this afternoon. This kicks off at two of the clock in order that the players can be finished in plenty of time before the new format Ready Steady Cook. As for whether Jarman is fit enough, interested enough, or good enough to usurp the top four Town strikers remains a matter for debate.

Paul Bolland certainly didn't mention Jarman in his Telegraph blog where he admitted that the strikers are having a tough time of it so far this season saying: "The front lads beat themselves up about it a bit but no-one blames them - it'll come soon I'm sure of it." Personally speaking we need a right-back much more than we need a striker. And perhaps it would be an idea to stop conceding every game which in itself would take some of the pressure off the front players. In a perfect world we would perhaps need two full-backs, a left-footed winger and a centre-forward. But when you look at the funds available I'd have to put a workmanlike right-back as the top priority, so Bennett can shine at centre-half rather than cope at full-back. I still scratch my head and wonder what was so bad about Bloomer, actually.

By the way Town have a fairly strong side out today with Jarman being joined by Andy Taylor up front and the likes of Montgomery, Heggggaaarty, Bore and Clarke also playing. It's free to get in so why not mosey down if you have time to kill? Sadly I've got someone's lawn to do this afternoon so you won't see me there. But first I'll have a quick gander at the athletics. See yer.
