"The lads have responded well to the disappointment of conceding such a late goal against MK Dons last Saturday. We've had a good week on the training ground and we go there full of confidence. They've had a similar start to the season as we have so it is all to play for. But against the Dons, and the previous week against Bradford we have shown we can hold our own and therefore head to Blundell Park confident of victory." So spake Macclesfield manager, Ian Brightwell to his official site. Change the opposition team names and it could be Alan Buckley talking.
Tomorrow's game promises to be extremely interesting as two teams look to make their average starts to the season turn in to good ones. The difference between five points from three games to two points from three games is, errm, three points. But psychologically it means a bit more, doesn't it? Top half as against bottom half. Macclesfield can count themselves unlucky not to have beaten Bastard Franchise scum last week what with Green hitting the underside of the bar as he went for his hat trick, and an unconscionable amount of injury time played resulting in a ninety-fifth minute equaliser. The signing of Francis Green from Boston in the summer appears to be unexpectedly paying off as he has found the net with three in the first two matches. I don't remember him being any good at all so your Guest Diarist will reserve judgement on this flash in a pan type start until after tomorrow. I actually think that we will win, and the bookies agree having made Town odds-on to do so at 4/5.
Lord Buckley, meanwhile, has been musing on his formation during the weekly pre-match interview with Mariners World. He sees the sense in playing 4-4-2 at home, but also rebuts the assertion that 4-5-1 is more defensive, citing the forward play of Till and Toner and the alacrity with which Bolland and Boshell get forward in support of the front man. The best thing about this whole dilemma is the ease with which the current team switches between the two formations. So probably what will happen is that Buckley will have a go with 4-4-2, look to get in front and then drop the extra midfielder back in if we do so. Whom the front two in that scenario would be is another quandary; Buckley commented on how sharp young Mr Taylor had looked at Lincoln the other night, so there are four strikers in contention to start. What will probably happen though is that Buckley will go for pace up front tomorrow, as the Silkmen's back four are about as quick as I am these days. But no injuries, Alan revealed - all bumps and bruises have been run off and yet again, a fully available squad. If you want more, go to our Fact file after this two minute break.
The Cod Almighty T shirt man has been on to me, blathering apologies about postage cock ups and asking if I will assure you readers that he has procured new self-adhesive stamps to foil the evil Boston-supporting postie who caused several folk to have to pay excess postage to get their hands on the new Cod Almighty Alan Buckley's Black and White army T shirt. A goodly number of these have been spotted already around Blundell park, and mighty fine the wearers looked in them too. Send in your photographs folks and we will publish them on the Cod Almighty T shirt gallery. And if you haven't bought one yet, what are you waiting for? The money keeps Cod Almighty going and any left goes to help the club. So remember, if you think this paragraph is an advert then it will be the only one you ever see on this site. No pop ups here, thank you very much. See yer.
