Diary - Thursday 16 August 2007
16 August 2007
Many were the days, across the summer, when the Diary struggled hard to find content as footballers whiled away their leisure weeks on the beaches of the Mediterranean and Alan Buckley didn't sign anyone. "Ah, well," I would tell myself as I filled the space with stories about fixture rearrangements, Stacy Coldicott's website and Ashley Sestanovich's court battles, "at least there'll be news every day once the season begins!" Nobody told me there'd be days like Thursday 16 August, though, when the best I would manage to bring you would be the news that the SNOS has published some photographs from last weekend's opening-day draw against Notts County, a shit 'alternative' rock band is playing at Grimsby Auditorium, and you can get a trial Mariners World subscription for 99p. But wahey, don't forget to catch up with the Vital network's Fantasy Football Newsletter, cos it's got a picture of some bird's arse on it!!!!
At least we've got each other and Last Resort FM, and Dave the Engineer has sent an email about Town's draw against Burnley in the League Cup the night before last. "Greetings! We attended the match on Tuesday, and what a fine performance it was, Town buckleyesque in outfootballing their Lancastrian superiors and losing, as is the tradition. During the game a text message was received from deepest Blackpool where we found that Radio Lancashire were broadcasting the game. Who's done a deal there then?" I guess the story has that age-old moral: a watched pot never boils and a Town fan who's fed up with the club improvising its PR and communications strategy on the back of a beermat should always check the other team's local BBC radio station just in case.
"Just to add to emails about the range of [Last Resort] FM's signal," writes Mark Dillerstone, "I'm almost pleased to report that I got good reception as far south as Saltfleet before the reception got a bit fuzzy. This was a surprise, as last year I couldn't get the station south of North Sea Lane." Was there anything worth listening to on it last year, then, Mark?
Lastly today, before I hand over to Guest Diary for tomorrow, the Diary would like to congratulate Town's Rivals network site the Electronic Fishcake on having published its 10,000th page. Quality!
