21 July 2009

Some will be there keeping a look out for the Croweman, others will be there to admire the Becchio hair. Others will just want to be able to say they have seen a player christened Fabian. And a few will think they are here to watch one of the 'big' clubs. Hard on the heels of a daftly-timed Lincs cup game against Scunny which we predictably lost 3-0 with a bunch of lads and mainly 'squad' players, Town will play Leeds tonight in a friendly.

The club said yesterday they had sold 1200 tickets and expect anything up to 3,000 tonight. Last nights rip-off pricing produced a crowd of well under a thousand who got the chance to see a slimmer, fitter-looking Danny North partner a stroppy-as-ever Adam Proudlock (a man whom could get booked for dissent whilst receiving a large lottery cheque made out in his name). Young Josh Fuller made a few eye-catching runs, and Clarke put a free kick over the bar. Out-gunned, a bit out-classed but the history books will not show a thrashing. It's all about fitness says manager Newell. Oh, and fitting the seven new lads in to the group which is what the Devon trip was all about he explained to the Telegraph.

Everyone seems fairly sure that the match tonight will start, at least, with something like our first team - although Leary is likely to be missed after playing last night. That is a shame as folk are interested to see him and Sweeney together in a sort of Adam Adamant meets the Equalizer sort of way. It would be nice if the starting line up got an hour, rather than all change at half time; but that seems about as likely as Sven taking a job with Notts County.

Eagle-eyed Mark Shepherd has spotted the future for sponsored shirts. As to whether following the sponsors instructions will be a bookable offence your Guest Diarist leaves you, gentle reader, to ponder. See yer.
