Diary - Tuesday 22 March 2011
22 March 2011
According to the Lincolnshire Echo Rob Scott and Paul Hurst are in the stands at tonight's Town game, set to be announced tomorrow as the 37th and, erm, 38th managers of Grimsby Town Football Club. Given that last Tuesday Scott was quoted as saying he "wouldn't put money" on him taking over at Town, and then at the weekend again dismissed speculation with a very precise selection of quotes - including "No one has spoken to me or Paul" - this raises many questions.
Has Scott been lying all along? Has the club actually only made a move in the past couple of days for what seems like their (at least) fifth choice for the hotseat? Or is everyone pissing up the wrong tree? Who knows. To be honest, a few of us at Cod Almighty Towers gave up caring ages ago. We'll just get on with our lives and see who John Fenty announces as the new manager(s) tomorrow, if there is an announcement. It doesn't help that Hurst and Scott have resigned this morning, but if they do join Town, then John Fenty has found someone who is his equal at being two-faced in public.
Some are excited by the whole thing, young blood, they've masterminded two promotions, comparisons with all those other really successful dual managers (Gritt and Curbishley at Charlton, and... um...). To me it just seems much ado about nothing, and I'm embarrassed as a Town fan and apologetic to Boston fans for what has become a fucking charade. Still, it won't be the first time Paul Scott's been an arrogant knobhead.
Which all makes news of tonight's game at home to Gateshead (PAY TO GET IN AND YOU MAY GET TO SEE THE NEW TOWN MANAGER(S) IN THE STANDS!) a little bit of a sideshow. Which it shouldn't be, but with a shrug and a 'hey ho' it is. The season may or may not be over after the weekend's defeat at Bath, so, yeah, whatever Trevor. Team news? Here. I really don't have anything else to say after this morning's events. I'm off to do something else.
