Diary - Wednesday 9 March 2011

9 March 2011

It's disappointment time again folks - the original Mr Diary has been kidnapped by some business people and made to sit in a room where they talk at great length about stuff that could, in all probability, be sorted out in eight minutes if they chose to be brisk, brief and decisive. So your Guest Diarist is here filling in again. Maybe I can get Mr Diary to occupy my Friday slot so you don't get absolutely sick of my incoherent babbling.

Well football news comes first - the stiffs are taking on Hartlepool and Charles 'Charles' Ademeno has been picked. So has young Mr Thanoj of whom former manager Woodses spoke so enthusiastically. They've already kicked off so you'll have to get a shift on if you wanna see the match.

And we have had mail. Regular Norfolk correspondent David Elvidge was listening to the radio last Saturday night: Writing this Saturday night and although I didn't get to the match, I've just listened to Dave Moore's interview. What a refreshing post-match chat! He came across as a thoroughly honest bloke, articulate and 'Town through and through (I liked his recollection as a lad of seeing Matt Tees score). Fair enough, it's only one game, but thanks Dave for giving us something positive after all the recent crap. He said he would be happy to carry on to give the Board breathing space and I would be all for that if he can keep today's momentum going. Radio Humberside seem to think we have not heard the last of the Board shenanigans and there may yet be a change of Chairman - Dave continuing would allow that person to take the lead in deciding who the permanent manager is to be."

Well thanks for that five penn'orth David. As I said yesterday it was a bit humbling and a bit inspiring to hear Mr Moore in such grounded voice. But the Chairman would probably have to call an EGM of fans in the car park to get permission to think thoughts like that.

Phil Watson also wrote in: "Good match report, best for ages. Have we considered the possibility that Fenty sacks a manager every 16 months not for footballing reasons, but just to reinvigorate Tony B?" Yeah that early seventies Lennon theme got him a long way at the weekend. And believe me, that Wimbledon dance really ought to catch on - I've been doing it in the privacy of my own home all week.

In other news ex-chairman Peter Furneaux is now ex-director Furneaux after standing down with immediate effect. Mr Furneaux and Mr Fenty have both issued statements via Town's superb new official web site. It is not known whether this news was pre-announced in the club car park first, but one message board nesbit was heard to cry triumphantly "see I told you Fenty was a liar - he told us Furneaux was going at the end of the season!" Now there are three - Messrs Fenty, Elsom and Chapman. The minimum quorum.

I'd like to wish Mr Furneaux a happy retirement and hope he still comes to watch the games and is spared abuse and further criticism. No, I'm not being funny/ironic/sarcastic/cynical/clever (delete as appropriate). He supports Town like we do. He's made mistakes but he's done good stuff too. Let's just draw a respectful line eh folks?

So, that's your lot for today, I'll leave you in the hands of part-time diary tomorrow who might have news on the manager. I doubt it somehow though given that Ian Sampson has applied but not heard a dicky bird yet. See yer.
