Diary - Thursday 3 March 2011

3 March 2011

Well, it's all been going on, hasn't it? We have to thank John Fenty for livening things up for us fans. It was getting towards that boring bit of the season. You know the bit: clubs are jockeying for positions, teams are fighting for promotion, or trying to get to the play-offs, or stay in the division or even stay in the league. Our John spotted that; he spotted we weren't going down, we weren't going up, and we weren't looking like getting anywhere near the play-offs. So he sorted it, Fenty style. He gave us news, he gave us controversy, and he gave us something to talk about. It's taken your Part-Time Diary around a week to work it out but, yep, Fenty's sacking of Woods was definitely a carefully considered plan to get us all excited about our wallowing team again. What a lad.

It's been just over a week since Woodses bit Fenty's annual manager bullet and your Part-Time Diary is impressed. Not only has Fenty given us fans a manager sacrifice but he's also thrown in some boardroom hullabaloo to boot. Grimsby have managed to get money man Mike Parker to resign from the board with a bit of internal squabbling. Who knows what goes on in that boardroom? Parker sounded pretty genuine in that interview, honest, open and professional - basically the anti-Fenty. He was straight-talking and concise; he didn't contradict himself or confuse anyone. Brilliant, I thought. But of course he's off the board now. Ah.

So what in response? Well, John Elsom responds with just the sort of useless, nothing statement we have come to expect from our current board members. After coating himself in modest glory by declaring exactly how little he has put in compared to Parker, he then fills us in on exactly why Parker resigned from the board. So why? Well, Elsom tells us it's to do with an issue in 'any other business'. The issue? Fuck knows, but there was no vote taken. Thanks for clearing everything up Mr Elsom. The statement was also signed by his two friends Furneaux and Chapman; the three musketeers of minor investors who seem to hold all the aces because they hold the majority vote.

Anyway, we might have a new manager before the weekend and it might be Cooper. We might get his assistant too. We might have to pay compensation. We'll have to wait and see. As for the whole board fiasco, well, your Part-Time Diary thinks they need to get Parker back in. A little outside influence can only benefit a frankly stale and stagnant board. Mike Parker; money, ideas, energy... so he's out. The stories are going to keep on coming but for God's sake John, I've had enough. Give me the boring mid-table stability any day.
