Silence. Blissful silence. For the best part of twenty four hours since Fenty harrumphed yesterday afternoon, posting a statement that rambled on for sixteen hundred words. Too long for the Fentygraph to publish in full: apparently not as succinct as the emails he exchanged with Mike Parker last week. As mildly incoherent as ever; riddled with spelling mistakes and committing the sin of publishing needless extracts from private correspondence; John Fenty is deep in the hole and continues to stubbornly dig. The fact that he is no longer chairman makes it rather strange that he can use the SNOS as his personal loud hailer don't you think?
The fans are just confused, trying to decipher the rich mens embarrassing very public arguments. In their different ways both Fenty and Parker are committed to GTFC: Fenty because he's enormously stubborn, and like Tony Blair, thinks everything he has done is right because he believed in it at the time: Parker because you don't inject £1.2m in cash and then just walk away do you?
After the Tuesday game the Shouty manager talked blithely of wanting to sign Green without adding a rider to acknowledge the huge loss-making situation his club are in and the fact that the two guys subsidising the large over-paid squad at Town are squabbling to the extent that both have said they won't do it much longer. Your Guest Diarist has no inside track but it would seem that the employees are inured to their failing business: they have a playing budget about £900,000 more than the club can afford, they've assembled an expensive squad and the bank manager views the prospects of promotion as a derisory joke. The solution is a new left back. Obviously.
Town are at home to Wrexham this Saturday. Normally Wrexham would be prefixed by the words high-flying but, as the welsh side get close to sorting out their huge problems off the pitch, their performance on it has dipped. One point from their last three matches. So if Town are going to resurge a bit, as it were, then at home to a side out of form is the time to prove it.
I'll be back tomorrow to review the preview as it were. But before I go here's one from Chris Beeley: "Will someone please tell Fenty how to spell "publicly", its driving me nuts." Not as nuts as visa versa is driving others mate. Believe me. See yer.
