Miss Guest Diary writes: After the disappointment of my trip to Gateshead in midweek, when I had to settle for a visit to a gallery and a meal out with friends instead of seeing Town play, I was looking forward to Saturday's match at Blundell Park more than usual. But it didn't start well.
Last week the club announced that non-season ticket holders would be able to purchase a ticket after Saturday's game for the Boxing Day trip to Sincil Bank. So I naturally assumed that, as a season ticket holder, I would be able to get my ticket before the game. But, oh no. Having secured my ticket for the FA Trophy game on the 15th, I asked for a Lincoln ticket, only to be told that "we stopped selling those at noon - come back after the game". Yeah, after spending two hours freezing my toes off in Blundell Park, I was really going to be up for getting even colder queuing outside the ticket office instead of enjoying some post-match fish and chips in the warm.
The club announced at 10 o'clock this morning that there were still 400 Lincoln tickets left, available both to season ticket and Tamworth ticket stub holders until Friday. So my decision to eschew the queue on Saturday evening was justified and, thanks to an early morning excursion today by the Tetney ticket mule, I now have my Lincoln ticket. But it's no thanks to the club, which continues to excel in finding ways to annoy and inconvenience loyal fans.
At least the football was good on Saturday - well, the result was, anyway. The performance itself was a little patchy, not helped by a lunatic referee. Does anyone know what the Tamworth penalty was for? I have watched the highlights on Mariners Player several times and cannot see any infringement. Fortunately, Jamie Mack made a great penalty save, so no real harm was done.
And Town are top of the table again. Shorty has apparently told the Telegraph that he hasn't yet seen anyone Town should fear and doesn't see why they can't be top at the end of the season. That's because he's only been at the club for a couple of years. The long-term, long-suffering fans know that Town will usually find a way to mess things up if they can. Just think back to 2005-06, when we spent 90 per cent of the season in an automatic promotion spot and still failed to go up. That's why I'm keeping my hopes firmly in check until the last minute of the last match next spring. I urge you to do the same - you know it makes sense.
