Mardy Diary writes: As is now tradition on transfer deadline day, Town will sign a player within five minutes of me finishing this diary. Personally I'm with Rob Scott on this one - transfer deadline day is a pain in the arse. It's like house buying - everyone has to sit and wait until the purchase at the top of the chain goes through; after that it's a mad rush to get everything sorted as quickly as possible as sales filter down the chain. And as with house buying it only takes one 'link' to go wrong and the deals further down the chain all go by the wayside.

It's pretty much pointless having such a large window. Basically what happens is that a number of transfers are made just as the window opens - usually players who have already been on loan at the buying club. Then nothing happens at all for a few weeks before everyone goes a bit mental on the last day and Sky Sports get ridiculously over-excited about uninteresting signings made by, say, Everton.

They may as well just make the transfer window a week long - or maybe just a day. Or, to be fair to clubs, make it two days long: one day to sign the player and the next day to 'fax' the paperwork through to the FA. Fax. Because football clubs, the FA and the Katawixi - an isolated South American tribe - are the only people left in the world who both own and use a fax machine.

Oooh look - we're about to sign a... striker!? Eh? That seems an odd move unless both Pearson and Elding are on their way out. Even then, it seems an odd one. Is it another one of those strikers-who-can-play-on-the-wing but-can't-really type signings? All will become clear by tomorrow...

In other news two Town away days have been ruined because massive broadcasters Premier Sports have decided to televise them. The Macclesfield match has been moved to Friday 1 March, and the final away game at Luton has been moved to Friday 12 April. The Luton one is a bit of a bugger as Town would probably have taken a good number of supporters along, but getting there on a Friday evening may knock a few hundred off that total. Still - at least we'll rake it in from TV rights, right? Right? RIGHT!?
