Saturday 13 September 2008

Division 4

Grimsby Town 1 North (52)

Chester 3 Ellison (3, 80, 87)

Attendance: 2950

Sponsors' man of the match: Peter Till
Cod Almighty man of the match: Peter Till

Bosh and Jarman were extremely solid presences, with Vidal purposeful and comfortable in a black and white shirt. But Peter Till, it's always Peter Till these days, for he does that Peter Till thing that he does.

Our gaffer says

"It's very difficult, disappointed as I am, to go into the dressing room and get stuck in to the players because they have played enough good football to have won two games."

Their gaffer says

"Kevin had to do a lot of running in the game."

Them

They were a one-man band – nobody knows or understands how they managed to sneak away with our Christmas hamper. Loadasluck and Kevin Ellison are the only explanations we can find for them sitting on top of our world. They were flimsy and fortunate, for they are a bunch of small tinklers who will be thrashed by the brasher teams. Their only salvation is that they have a single player capable of scoring goals.

Official warning

Mr M Haywood (W Yorks)
His decisions did turn the match -€“ for without his whistle Ellison wouldn't have scored the second goal; he created the conditions for Chester success. His award of a late penalty to Town was sheer cowardice -€“ he wouldn't, and didn't, give Town a penalty when the scoreline was less uneven. A terrible decision, especially as we only score penalties in shoot-outs, so he loses any points he gained previously for being anonymously dull: 5.002.

Accentuate the positive

For 33 minutes of the second half Town were swaggeringly dominant, playing exquisite, free-flowing, intelligent, confident football. At some point the opposition will stop shooting unstoppably into the top-left hand corner of the net.
