Diary - Tuesday 19 March 2013

19 March 2013

Middle-Aged Diary is unwell, and his laptop is even worse, so apologies that this is late, short and none-too-sweet.

It happens that the symptoms came on on Sunday, and I first mistook them for a hangover brought on by celebrating, very wisely and not quite as well as I'd have liked, Wales's demolition of the English rugby team. Now I know that there have been questions in the House about a few smatterings of rugby coverage in CA, but bear with me. Wales's Six Nations title was secured with a 30-3 win on Saturday, by coincidence exactly the same score by which they were losing shortly after half time in the first match of the championship, at home to Ireland. They came back in that game but it was still their eighth consecutive loss. In the next few weeks they ground out wins before showing what they were capable of against England.

The point, you will have gathered, is that a mere three-match losing streak is nothing. Check the league table. It's not as pretty as it was a month ago, but it's not so desperate yet either. Still more encouraging is the fact that Craig Disley and Ross Hannah are available for tonight's game at Nuneaton and that Derek Niven hopes to return to training on Thursday. Let's see if we can grind out a win tonight to give us a springboard to put on a show at Wembley, and put some fresh spirit into our legs.

I certainly need it. I'm off back to bed.
