Miss Guest Diary writes: Had I been asked a month ago to name what I believed to be Town's best line-up and formation, I would not have hesitated. Today, given the varying personnel and tactics used to very good effect over the last couple of weeks, I would struggle with that task. Don't get me wrong: I have been delighted to see my favourite from last season, Frankie Artus, get a regular run in the team, to witness the brief return of a more mature Space Cadet, and to share in Saturday's heartfelt celebration of Liam Hearn's first goal of the season. But now I'm concerned that, with Hearn back and the improving performances from John-Lewis, I may not get to see my current favourite player, Andy Cook, again this season.
Choices, choices, choices. The difficulty of leaving players out of the squad was touched upon by Shorty in his post-match interview with John Tondeur on Saturday. He admitted that the management duo have "tough decisions to make" but will "concentrate on the first leg... and pick a team to win the game". I tried, and sadly failed, to resist the temptation to say surely that's what every manager does every week. Apparently, there has been academic research which shows that the more choice people have, the riskier the decisions they make. Or, even worse, that being faced with too many choices can lead to 'decision paralysis'. Hopefully, Town's management duo won't succumb to either of these phenomena.
One thing I do feel sure of is that, whoever steps across that white line on Wednesday evening, they will be totally committed to the Town cause: something I had my doubts about earlier in the year. We need to ensure that we, as supporters, are equally committed throughout the game, no matter what happens.
On a lighter note, the Mariners Trust has announced that tickets for the evening with George Kerr on 17 May are now on sale. In addition to George, there will be other ex-Town players in attendance: Kevin Drinkell, Tony Ford, Dave Moore, Terry Donovan and many more. Tickets are £25 or £20 for trust members - another very good reason to join.
I leave you with an article from Geoff Ford pondering how good, statistically speaking, this season has been for Town. Regardless of what the statistics say, I feel that the experience from a fan's point of view has been the best for many years.
