Diary - Thursday 11 April 2013

11 April 2013

It's what? Four o'clo... it never is! Oh. Sorry!

And there's another game tomorrow? No! Oh. Blimey!

Um. Right. Well! Your original/regular Diary apologises profusely for the lateness of today's outpourings - it was lunchtime and I had to go to the pub, and then when I got back, there was this thing to do, and then after that... anyway, here we are now, right?

And the big news of the day, if you're of a Grimbarian and footbally persuasion, is that first-choice midfield duo Derek Niven and Craig Disley look OK for that match at Luton tomorrow night. Niven, of course, "stiffened up" during Tuesday evening's big win at Dartford, prompting some Town fans to wonder whether the player had returned to action too soon after his recent injury, whatever it was, I can never remember injuries. Disley, for his part, has been in and out a bit lately, probably through general exhaustion. I know how he feels.

It's funny how things have turned out with that Luton game. Just a few weeks ago it looked like a potential six-pointer in the promotion race. After Forest Green's defeat on Tuesday, though, Town's play-off place is secured. And Luton... well, we know what happened to Luton. That's what happens if you think you have a divine right to Football League status and sack the manager every time you look up and find you're 'only' fifth or sixth in the table. Hashtag just saying. Winter is over and Lenell John-Lewis is playing well.

Lastly today, speaking of matters Lutonian, those managers of ours would apparently welcome Scott Neilson back to Blundell Park. "He did a good job for us and we got on well with Scott and he brought a lot to the team and to the players around him," says the Shorty one. Neilson, as we know, has recently been released from his contract at Kenilworth Road, and irked some Town fans when he returned to his southern roots with a throwaway comment about ambition for the benefit of the Bedfordshire newspapers. I wouldn't have a problem if he came back either. But I'm only the crazy fool who thought Peter Beagrie deserved a chance. See you next week!
