Make it easy on yourself

Miss Guest Diary writes: I'm confused. Ex-chairman Fenty has today stated that the club is in great shape, that he is making a larger financial commitment this year and that the squad will be of a similar size to last season. So why exactly did the club let Ian Miller, the best defender in non-League, and Bradley Wood, Town's longest-serving player and provider of cover at both left- and right-back, go to rival Conference teams? And if he really thinks having Hearn back will be "like having a new signing", then he was obviously too busy smashing flags at the play-off games to pay much attention to the action on the pitch.
Along with most other Town fans, it seems, Mr Fenty is pleased with the two actual signings so far. Neilson we know all about from last season's loan spell, but what of Scott Kerr? I am told I have seen him play against Town for both Lincoln and York but I don't remember him. As I generally only remember opposition players if they are exceptionally good or very dirty, I suppose that Kerr is neither. Michael Coulson describes Kerr as the best professional he has played with. What does that actually mean? Let's hope it's not the footballing equivalent of an album having "a couple of good tracks" or a movie being "beautifully shot".
And then there's the fact that both new signings are called Scott. Is this a coincidence or a new signing policy? Will Town be seeking to re-sign the underrated Scott Garner, or tapping up Scott Boden at Chesterfield? I hear that Scott Sinclair is surplus to requirements at Manchester City. And – one for the teenagers here – what about bringing in Scott Walker to provide some half-time entertainment.
Finally, there's the new kit. The more I look at pictures of it, the less I like it. The white collar and cuffs and the intermittent narrow stripes make it look like less like a football shirt and more like a leisure shirt from the '70s: sort of 'Man at C&A'. And what's that bit of red at the neckline all about? Definitely over-styled, like Andi Thanoj's hair in the publicity pictures. At least Town will still be wearing red socks next season.
