Tony Thorpe has been a spectacular goalscorer... for Luton.
Thorpe has had as many as four stints at Kenilworth Road, where his status approaches that of a folk hero, on average scoring in every other game. He's a quick, agile and energetic striker and a spectacular goalscorer rather than a scorer of spectacular goals.
It's not that long ago that Town were fearing facing Thorpe in the second flight: August 2003, to be exact, when he was last at Luton, and then again shortly afterwards when he bizarrely moved to QPR for a mere £50,000. However, he only appears to be able to score hatfuls of goals for the Hatters.
Thorpe is a bit of a Jamie Forrester-type character – though he seems to be a bit vulnerable to injuries and his commitment seems to get questioned when he's away from Bedfordshire. He'll bring the experience and pro know-how that we need up front, and Beagrie and Bore could give him good service, so it may work out - and judging by the Stockport and Hartlepool performances, we sure need some punch up front.
