The "custard custodian" - as Mr Tony Butcher called him - was signed on a Bosman free by former gaffer, Sir Alan Buckley. One day we were signing Andy Petterson, the next it was Ian Bennett, and then the Grimsby Telegraph announces it's Danny Coyne. Crikey.
Danny arrived just before Town's second season back in division one, taking over from the departed Aidan Davison. With one Welsh cap to his name, Danny went on to make an uncertain start but soon settled in showing a sharpness for shot-stopping and some alert throw outs.
A few level that Danny's kicking is erratic but it's improved over the past couple of seasons. A few level that he stays on his line too much. But he has improved and he is steady, such that he's back being a regular in the Wales squad.
Time after time, Danny has kept Town in games with his smart keeping. In others he has single-handledly kept some defeats down to a respectable score. And then there are the times when he has flicked away a goal-bound effort to nick the points for Town.
Wales' number one? Not quite. But he's not far off.
Best remembered for
The mop of hair he sported when he first arrived, eventually giving way to the more stylish crop he has now
Any number of instinctives saves that have saved points for Town
