Miss Guest Diary writes: Over the weekend it felt as if summer had finally arrived: two warm, sunny days in a row; the T20 season started with a solid seven-wicket victory for Nottinghamshire; and the Tour de France got underway with some crazy crashes and splendid Corsican scenery. So it feels odd to remember that the Town squad have already assembled to prepare for next season.
And a very lopsided squad it is at the moment: five strikers, five midfielders and only three defenders. What sort of formation can the management duo possibly conjure out of that? Yes, I know they have told the Telegraph that they are looking for a central defender who is "quick, strong, mobile, dominant and good on the ball" and are confident that they will "get what they want". Does anyone else think they are describing Ian Miller to a T? In the words of the great Joni Mitchell: you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
To take my mind off Town's lack of defenders, I knitted one for myself over the weekend. But my partner thinks he looks more like a winger, maybe Dave Gilbert. What do you think?
You'll know that last week the former York City midfielder Patrick McLaughlin signed a contract with Town. But it seems he also signed his shirt, which you can now bid for on eBay. A shirt which he must have worn for all of 10 minutes for the photo shoot. Are Town really that strapped for cash?
