Mardy Diary writes: Super Watkiss Students Star in Seven Goal Stunner. A nice first match for Stu on his return to the youth team as they canter to a seven-goal victory over North Ferriby. I'm sure he'd be the first to admit that it's not his doing, but still - it bodes well for the future. Personally, I'm dead chuffed he's back at the club. He's a good coach, a proper professional and he strikes me as a thoroughly decent bloke too. Nice one Stu.
On tomorrow's game Hurst is asking for a repeat of the performance against Dartford - that'd be nice. Hannah (who I almost called Boulding there) is a slight doubt, but with Hearn and Cook available it's not like we're struggling for striking options. Ritchie 'Rich' Jones was also a doubt, but it looks possible that he'll be OK by the weekend now. The bigger question seems to be whether he will hang around after his month is up, with Hurst making it quite clear that the decision on whether he stays or not is mostly down to The Majority Shareholder.
Anyway, we've thrown together a little preview of the match tomorrow with the usual facts and figures in, so go over and peek at that if you want more of a lowdown on the game.
In other news, Town legend Don Donovan, who captained the successful teams of the late fities and early sixties, has passed away at the age of 83. Don is ones of those players well before my time but whose name is familiar to me due to the success he had with the club. There's a nice little piece on him on the official site which does a good job of summing up his career. It's always sad when someone dies, but I think when you've had a good stint and you've made a positive impact on this lives of others, as Don has, then there's lots to look back on and be happy about.
And while you're in nostalgic mood, the official site has put up freely available footage of the 3-0 defeat at home to Spurs in the 1991-92 League Cup. Not the greatest result, but in my mind it was us versus Gary Linker's toe-poking skills. We gave a good account of ourselves against one of the top teams in the country at that time. I mostly remember it because I got my ticket late so had to stand in the Osmond. Spurs fans - the few that came - were given the corner between the Osmond and Main Stand.
Enjoy and have a good weekend.
