Never knowingly loving it
20 November 2013
So, it's the morning after the night before and your London Diary has a spring in his step. We beat our plucky rivals last night, sending certain parts of North East Lincolnshire in to cataclysmic… HOLD THE PRESS! THE GRIM REAPER STRIKES AGAIN. We'll be updating that Grimsby Reaper page then...
So it seems that poor old Brian Laws has had his contract terminated. I did have a paragraph on why they shouldn't give him the boot, but there's no point including that now, is there? What did make me chuckle was in an interview last night where he said that Scunny threw the kitchen sink at us. Well firstly, you shouldn't be throwing anything given your previous, Brian, and also, you'll need something bigger to throw at Clayton McDonald. The man is the same size as the Dock Tower, and that's a fact.
If Laws happens go back to Scunthorpe in a few years' time (very unlikely), that would be his fourth stint at their manager (very good fact), and will make him the only manager to have gone back to the same club four times (very funny).
So LJL (the Shop) and Clayton McDonald (a fast food outlet) scored our two goals last night. I've been trying to think of puns all night for the two of them, and I'm not going to insult you by using them. Yes, I thought of loads actually. Kerr and McDonald were apparently both fantastic last night. Yes, we could talk about the goal that we conceded 30 seconds into the second half, but let's just sit back and savour this for a while, shall we?
I couldn't get tickets to the game last night, even though some were made available at lunchtime yesterday, but most of my friends did. They said that the atmosphere was brilliant in the ground. Sadly there were a few delays for some fans in getting to the game, with reports of a road collision which resulted in quite long tailbacks. Hopefully everyone is safe and sound now.
Town fans made up 33 per cent of the crowd last night – that's a third of the stadium in real money so bloody well done if you were there singing your heart out. The gaffer is saying the win was for the fans. "There's a lot been said about things that haven't gone for Grimsby in recent years, but this is for the fans – it was nice to send them home happy." More than you care to imagine, mate, but this is a nice little taster of what used to be, and hopefully of what more is to come.
There's quite a few things to look forward to now. Barnet on Saturday, Coalville in the Trophy and Northampton in the cup. We've even been selected for the TV package. Woop-de-bloody-woop. Town on terrestial. No dodgy pubs and Middle Eastern streams for us any more. It’s like we're a proper football team. Now, let’s all get behind them on Sat and bump us up that league table. UT(bloody)M!!
