Whatever happened to The Brightlights?

15 January 2014

"Their chairman insisted on tree hugging floodlights, should face an investigation the hippy idiot". Yeah too right mate, anyone that tries to save the planet is an idiot. You forgot to mention he's a vegan too. LOL.

"We should be awarded all 3 points automatically, forest green couldn't play but we could. It's only fair". What? Did Stevie Croudson pack the night vision goggles along with the hi-vis away kit?

"Shocking FGR lights aren't as good as ours". That's right pal, hit 'em where it hurts. NOT THE LIGHTS GUYS.

Just three cracking comments there which your London Diary picked out from Town fans' social media output last night after news was broken that Forest Green's lights were, well, broken. Floodlight issues happen all the time. Goodness knows why – maybe it's because they're massive and require a load of electricity (FYI, I'm not a qualified electrician; I'm just guessing). But Forest Green are a club that is actively trying to run the most environmentally friendly stadium in the world. And why the bloody hell not. Well done to the Town fans who made the trip last night in vain. A double thumbs-up to you if you made the trip in a Prius.

Fair play to Forest Green for refunding fans who attended the game last night. Can't begin to imagine what an arse-ache that would be, so well done guys and all the best with your green work. There are some good people left in football you know. Also, Cleethorpes Town are offering anyone with a voucher from last night's game free entry to see their game against Brigg tonight. Get down and watch some football. Lovely.

Little pop quiz for you all now: when was the last time a Grimsby Town game was abandoned? Tweet us your answers.

However, that does mean that another game has to be arranged. Town's fixture list is already tighter than Eric Pickles' belt, so it'd be interesting to see when this game will be squeezed in. Town haven't played a full league game since new year's day so the lads must be chomping at the bit to get out there and play. Back in 2008 I left my Nintendo DS at a friend's house and he then went on holiday for two weeks (Mexico, I think). That was a very tense 14 days with no Dr Kawashima's Brain Training which I hope will never happen again, so goodness knows what the players are going through. Let's see what happens on Saturday when we entertain Gateshead at Blundell Park. The lights better bloody work.

We have Tamworth in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy. I have nothing to say on the matter. Let football do its thang. Take me to the bridge.
