The Diary

A farewell to kings

21 March 2014

So, here I am once more, in the playground of the broken hearts. Marillion eh? I'm sure they were secret Town fans.

Well it's me, the Diary With No Name, here with some semblance of news about Town and that sort of stuff. After agreeing to do this diary, you mad impetuous fool, I thought I'd better listen in to Radio Humberside's fantastic nightly sports show, to get the latest on the Mariners from Town supremo TMFKAS. Before that, though, Mr R Wilcox said that in all probability Connor Jennings and Max Boyce will be here for the rest of the season, probably, maybe.

Hurst didn't disappoint either. I was regaled with tales from the training ground and tall stories from the short man about Joe Colbeck still being injured and everybody else being OK, except poor Liam of course. Also Hurst informed the listening public that he wished new Wrexham manager Kevin Wilkin all the best. Especially as it meant that tomorrow's opponents Nil by Mouth are left managerless for the visit of the stripey hordes. He didn't drone on about much else, although he did say Lenny was back in his thoughts after his rest on Tuesday.

Talking of droning, I then had to endure minutes, and believe me that's enough, of rugby league correspondent turned general bore Gwilym Lloyd prattling on about how an ACL injury would have meant having your leg amputated when he was a lad. Remember Gwillum, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I put the Rush CD on after that.

As another source of Town info I tuned my brand new, not Sky, tellybox into Estuary TV's On The Bench. Estuary TV, I hear you cry, who are they? No scouse accent please. Well if you have Freeview and live within 15 feet of what used to be Grimsby Technology College, try tuning in to channel 8. There wasn't actually much to be found out about Town, and Dave Boylen was on: in my day blah blah, Lawrie Mac blah blah, new stadium blah blah yawn. Actually, he didn't really mention Lawrie Mac. I just added that for comedic effect.

Over on the usual sources of GTFC info, the SNOS, the Fishy and Twitter, well, not a bloody lot really. Obviously it might help if I were a subscriber to Mariners World, then I could watch Hurst give his radio interview. The Fishy is, well, it's the Fishy and is full of wonderful, wonderful people all contributing their thoughts on why Town are Town. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't. Twitter was, earlier in the week, just full of some guy giving TV legend Adam Richman a hard time because he has said in the past that he supports Spurs and Town. The guy wasn't happy that Mr Richman hasn't been to a Mariners game... EVER. Personally I don't care. If he says he's a Town fan then that's good enough for me. It's not as though we're overly blessed with celebrity fans.

So that's that in a nutshell, not a bloody lot. Here's hoping for three points from Nuneaton, otherwise the doom mongers will be out, talking about a relegation, don't you just love Tracy Chapman. See ya.

Oh, and there's Liam Hearn being released.
