Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore dum dum dum de dum

4 April 2014

While following Town's midweek game online, I again picked up comments from others watching European football that, as someone from England, I should be supporting English clubs in Europe. You know, like the American-owned Manchester club or the Russian-owned London club. I've never quite understood the logic of this – is it supposed to be good for the English game? Should I be happy that these clubs that steal support from my own club are hoarding more wealth and widening the gap further between rich and poor? And anyway, I didn't see any Premier League fans cheering us on in Europe against Wrexham. Pfff! It's one rule for them and one rule for everyone else.

I've always had the suspicion that if Town did somehow fluke their way into Europe, via an exceptional cup run or some such thing, that actually we'd be sneered at by that rich club lot anyway. Like when Palace got into the Intertoto on the fair play rule. "Grimsby in Europe? They'll get hammered mate." There's no real solidarity so let's not pretend there is.

Back to Town then, who kick off a busy period of games this weekend which, all things going well, would see them all but secure a play-off place, according to Paul Hurst. Of course all things don't usually go well with Town, usually they go... well, Town. So expect us to still be waiting to confirm a place in the play-offs until after the last game of the season.

I'm sure many would be happy to see us cruise into the play-offs early and rest key players ready for the important games, but I'm of the view that Town need to keep the tempo up right to the very end and not switch off when it matters most. And let's face it, they have form there. Braintree, on the other hand, show that a packed fixture list is no hindrance to good form. Bizarrely, they've now played more games than us.

Town have no injury worries going into the game this weekend thankfully, but Kidderminster see the return of the excellently named Chey Dunkley. I have no idea if that is a good thing for them, knowing nothing about the player except his name. But what a name it is. It has the air of all-action hero about it. I hope in reality it has the air of shit footballer about it. But we'll see.

Anyway, have a good weekend and see you all next week.
