It all starts with Mr B

Now, usually at this time of year Town fans are worrying about who will form the backbone of the side for the next season, let alone a starting XI. However, this year is different. Things seem calm. There seems to be a positive vibe, that's right, vibe, coming from the dressing room. Sure, Rodman's gone, but there's no point crying about one man, for we have many men to fill his boots.
Your London Diary genuinely yelped when seeing the news that Neilson had signed on for another year; not just because it's a brilliant addition to the team but it also sends out more positive vibes that we mean business. Too many times we've seen decent players leave at the end of the season for one reason or another. Whatever it is that Hurst is saying to these lads behind closed doors, it seems to be working.
In Neilson's most recent interview with the Telewag, he mentions that Hurstststs' potential signings "would certainly make the fans happy – provided we can get them". That comment alone sent the Fishy into rumour overdrive. There are various mutterings of Connell, Akinde and Touré all signing for the club, but I guess we just have to sit back and wait and see.
The last league game of the season at Braintree was a dreary affair, but a few good things came out of that forlorn fixture. When Disley was replaced in the second half, Andi Thanoj stood up and bossed the middle of the park like he'd played as many games as Ryan Giggs. I sincerely hope that he signs on the dotted line, as the prospect of a Disley and Thanoj partnership this year is mouthwatering.
Secondly, at one point during that game, the middle four consisted of Winfarrah, Thanoj, Charlesworth and Southwell. Sadly two of them are no longer here, but to see that all four midfielders were products of the GTFC youth system was great. Hopefully we'll be able to do the same next year. I racked my brain to try and think of the last time I remember either the defence or midfield consisted of youth graduates and I failed. Can you remember? Tell us. Anyway, well done lads on making it pro. All the bloody best.
